The Good and The Bad in more detail (The Male Gaze Theory and Binary Opposites In Our Sequence)

Basic Theories -
The sexualisation of women from a male point of view, presenting women as objects of make pleasure.
Two theoretical opposites that are strictly defined and set off against one another.

Purpose -
The main character is a mundane teenage male ; The Good and The Bad are the mentally constructed images of his consciousness. To highlight the fact that he is just a normal boy (not naturally abnormal at all) we thought that a mental image created by him would be an object of his sexual desire. The use of the male gaze theory emphasises the normality of his mental state which foreshadows the idea that his schizophrenic symptoms are not naturally occurring.
The use of binary opposites in the colours and attitudes of the two characters highlights the idea that one is his "good" conscious voicing his positive thoughts and the other is his "bad" conscious voicing his negative thoughts.

The Costumes -
The Bad:

Black - assosiated with power, death, evil and mystery. Black is a mysterious colour linked to fear and the unknown. It has a negative connotation.
Dress - emphasises femininity of the mental images.
Low Cut Top & Tight Fitting - male gaze theory ; feminine assets highlighted.
Messy hair - creates a link to the characters id through the idea that the character has been hidden in his subconscious and rarely seen until this point.

The Good:

White - White is associated with light, goodness and purity. White often means safety. As opposed to black, white often has a positive connotation.
Dress - emphasises femininity of the mental image.
Subtler make up - less intense , more natural (real).
