Uses and Gratifications In The Thriller Genre.

The audience watches psycholical thrillers which is mentally challenging in order to be a more active viewer  which results in an educating experience for the audience. This genre also allows them to escape from daily life because they are able to identify with the protagonist, however they do not have to face the challenges that the character does which will then make them feel better about their life. This is an unconscious process.
The audience is also able to talk to their peers about the film which results in social interaction.


Our genre requires a very active audience but much of the time viewers are only watching the film for enjoyment and entertainment.  It also goes too far in empowering the audience and taking power away from the media producer who is likely to have thought long and hard about different conventions and techniques which will cause a certain response from the audience.
